Darth Maul yearned for revenge against the Jedi. Finally, his master Darth Sidious unleashed him in an assassination attempt on Queen Amidala on the outskirts of Tatooine. He briefly fought Qui-Gon Jinn, the queen's Jedi escort, but failed to achieve his goal. Later, Maul waited for Amidala on Naboo, where he dueled Qui-Gon and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Sith fought with blinding speed and impressive agility, stabbing Jinn through the face with a red double-edged lightsaber; however, he was unable to heal Obi-Wan. The young Jedi, in a surprising move, cut Maul in half and sent him plummeting into the planet's core, seemingly destroyed.
